Get the best out of the best

Once you have the best on board, how do you get them to consistently deliver their best? Begin by ensuring that they go through an induction programme. At the very least this should equip them with whatever they need to do their job on a daily basis. It will also introduce them to names and faces so they can ask the right people for help when necessary. What are known as 'hygiene factors' should be sorted out. Will they be paid on time? Do they have a computer? A desk? An email account? A job description? Then check that they know their objectives and how they are being measured. Finally, make sure they get things like positive reinforcement and appropriate praise. Are you reinforcing the best by catching them doing things right?
